Eligibility
- The basic criteria to pursue MBBS is that the student should have completed their 10+2 examinations and must have scored a minimum of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology by a recognized board.
- In order to apply for the medical entrance test, the applicant must be at least 17 years old on or before 31st December of the year of admission.
- Upper age limit till now was 25, but for NEET 2023, this limit has been removed.
- To get a seat in the 15% of the total seats of medical and dental courses of the central government colleges, a student also needs to sit for the NEET exam.
- Students also apply for AIIMS & JIPMER MBBS Entrance Exam, CET, and AIMEE to get admission into MBBS programme.
NEET 2022 Pattern
- The NEET 2022 is an offline exam of 3 hours duration.
- The number of questions asked in the exam are 200 and the maximum score is 720.
- It follows the Multiple Choice Question
- For every correct answer, a student is awarded +4 marks and is penalised 1 mark for every wrong answer.
Counselling
Once the NEET exam has been conducted, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) starts the counselling process. This counselling is done for 15% AIQ seats for UG courses, 50% AIQ seats for PG courses & 100% seats in Super-specialty courses (DM/Mch).
State counselling authorities release separate merit lists for 85% State Quota Seats based on NEET 2022 result along with their respective minimum eligibility norms.

Course Structure
MBBS is a 5-year long course and includes a total of 9 semesters and 1 year Internship.
The following is a breakup of subjects that a student studies in the respective semesters-
- Semester 1-2 (Pre-clinical): Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology.
- Semester 3-5 (Para-clinical): Community Medicine, Forensic Medicine, Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, Clinical postings, OPDs.
- Semester 6-9 (Clinical): Community medicine and allied subjects (Psychiatry, Dermatology), Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Surgery and allied subjects, Clinical postings.
Following is how the 1 year long internship learning is scheduled-
- Medicine- a specialty of duration of 1.5 months.
- Surgery- Specialty of duration 1.5 months.
- Rural- a specialty of duration 3 months.
- Paediatrics- a specialty of duration 1 month.
- Obstetrics and Gynaecology- a specialty of duration 1 month.
- Casualty- duration 1 month
- Anaesthesiology- duration 15 days
- Ophthalmology- duration 15 days
- Elective- duration 2 months
Q1) How many attempts can I get in NEET?
There is no restriction on the number of attempts a student can take in NEET. Even the upper age limit for the exam has been removed for NEET 2023.
Q2) Is there any age limit for NEET 2023?
Till now, the upper age limit was 25 for the general category and 30 for the reserved categories. But for the NEET exam 2023, the upper age limit has been removed.
Q3) How can I get admission in an MBBS course?
To join any MBBS course, there are certain eligibility criteria that a student needs to fulfil including having cleared 10+2 examinations in the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Biology from a recognized board.
